Hey there citizens of Detroit and Windsor! As I mentioned in the comments of !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! my wife, mom, dad and I are attending the Detroit Auto Show soon.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

We got some great reviews for food, drink and entertainment from some of you already. But I have a couple more questions: My wife hasn't been to Canada before. Is the border crossing a pain in the butt? How long will it take to cross into CA, take a look around, maybe get lunch and cross back again? If it takes too long its not worth it as we don't want to waste time in a checkpoint line.

Thanks in advance!

Do you have your passports or enhanced licenses? IF you don't, you're gonna have a bad time.

Otherwise, the last time I used the Ambassador Bridge/Detroit-Windsor Tunnel was in 2007 in order to buy a car. It was fairly speedy into Canada (depending on what time you head over), and coming back was delayed because of the car thing, but once that was squared away it was ok.

Honestly not worth the drive/wait/tolls, IMO. Unless you care to take in the views at the Windsor ballet, the two cities aren't strikingly different and the food will be better and cheaper in Detroit.

Thanks, I sort of figured that, but wanted to find out for sure.

Yep, bring your passport. It's slower than driving elsewhere, and slower than Euro border crossing, but not wicked slow. However, the real important question is it worth it to visit Windsor just to say you've been to Canada? My vote is no. Windsor is not very impressive. Also keep in mind they have different money, but you might be able to pay by card if your credit card company doesn't block or flag international purchases. Also, your phone might not work internationally so make sure you have good directions and know where you're going.

I'm with Yamahog in the "it's probably not worth the effort" camp.

I will tell you though, that in every Ad Agency I've worked at around Metro Detroit, we have people that commute from Canada.

Yea you read that right, they go through the boarding crossing twice a day to work over here.

I might list them as crazy (especially when I have to hear about their weird ass thanksgiving in the wrong month lol) but apparently it's easy enough crossing wise to go back and forth daily.

also, if it went over your head, be sure to check urban dictionary for "windsor ballet"

The other reason to cross the border is if you're only 19 and want beer.

Ha, I am familiar with the concept - and - doing that search on my work computer would not go so well for me!
